When was the last time you reviewed your older episodes and checked whether their titles are still relevant? It’s easy to get caught up in thinking your latest release is the only one that matters.
But you need to think like a listener.
When you’re scrolling through a podcast app and find something interesting, you might well hit play on the newest episode. But just as often, you’ll browse through the back catalogue looking for content that catches your eye.
Here’s the opportunity
On average, we find that around 30% of podcast listening in any given month comes from older episodes - not just your latest release. Keeping your episode titles relevant is a powerful way to maximise those listens.
We recently advised a client to update the title of an episode from a year ago. It made perfect sense at the time, but with a small tweak, we made it feel far more relevant today, while still staying true to the content.
For example, if you have an episode about how the Ukraine conflict impacted businesses and sustainability in 2025, there’s a good chance that content is also relevant to businesses affected by more recent global conflicts in 2026. A simple title update can help signal that relevance to potential listeners.
