About Us

Podcast with credibility

We partner with leaders and businesses who see podcasting as a serious communication tool, not a hobby. From strategy through to production, we bring broadcast experience and the kind of honest, confident guidance that only comes from having done this at the highest level. In the environments we come from, clarity and credibility are never optional.

We’re The Podcast Coach. A broadcast-trained team helping leaders communicate with clarity.

We’ve spent decades in national radio and television broadcasting. High-stakes environments where quality is not optional.

Now we bring that experience to businesses who want their podcast to feel credible and considered from day one.

Our clients don’t want hobby content. They want a communication channel they can stand behind. One that sounds measured, professional and aligned with their brand.

We start with strategy and ideas; what you’re saying, why it matters, and who needs to hear it.

If you want a podcast that earns attention and builds trust, you’re in the right place.

The Podcast Coach. Your story amplified.

At The Podcast Coach, you work directly with us, the directors

Rory

Head of Audio

Rory spent a decade as a BBC Studio Director on Radio 4 and 5 Live – environments where getting it wrong in front of millions of listeners wasn't an option.

That national broadcasting experience shows in everything we produce now: tight editorial structure, clean technical execution, and the confidence to tell clients when something isn’t working.

He’s mixed award-winning podcast series including Paradise, The Secret History of Flight 149, and End Of Days – work that required shaping complex investigative narratives into something genuinely listenable at broadcast standard.

In 2019 he left the BBC to train as a commercial helicopter pilot. He now flies offshore in the North Sea alongside leading audio strategy and production at The Podcast Coach. The two roles share more than you’d think – both require systems discipline, calm decision-making under pressure and clear communication.

Rory co-founded The Podcast Coach with Ben in 2021. He also runs Rory On Air, a YouTube channel aimed at inspiring others to follow their aviation passions, with over 25,000 subscribers.

Lizi

Executive Producer

Lizi spent over a decade producing across BBC network newsrooms at Radio 5 Live Breakfast and BBC Breakfast television.

Environments where every decision had to be defensible, every guest had to deliver, and every story had to justify the airtime.

That experience translates directly into how we work with clients now. She knows how to identify what’s genuinely interesting versus what just sounds impressive. How to brief guests so they’re prepared without being scripted. How to shape a conversation so it serves the listener, not just the host.

At BBC Breakfast she worked with high-profile presenters and correspondents daily – managing egos, timelines and editorial standards simultaneously. The skill isn’t just finding good guests. It’s knowing which guests will actually work for your specific audience and your specific format, then preparing them properly so the conversation delivers.

Before television she cut her teeth at Radio 5 Live Breakfast, where breaking news and tight deadlines were the norm, not the exception. That’s where she learned to make fast editorial decisions under pressure and trust her judgement when there’s no time for committee approval.

Ben

Creative Content Director

Ben is a national radio presenter on Heart – a brand that reaches over 12 million listeners a week.

In 2025 he was given the late show, the biggest show of his career to date. You’ll also hear him covering daytime slots, presenting drive with Kelly Brook, and broadcasting across the Cote D’Azur on Riviera Radio.

That’s sixteen years of live broadcasting experience at national scale. Which means he understands what works for an audience – in front of millions of people who will switch off if you get it wrong.

Ben started at 16, knocking on the door of his local radio station. He hosted breakfast on Jack FM, got talent-spotted by Global, then anchored Heart Breakfast in Wiltshire for five years before moving to the national network. The arc matters because it means he’s learned the craft at every level – local, regional, national – and knows what separates competent presenters from ones people actually want to listen to.

He now coaches podcast hosts on how to sound confident, credible and genuinely listenable. Former clients have gone on to present at Sky Sports, ITV and Channel 5. Current clients include The Little Questions and Rewilding the World with Ben Goldsmith.

Ben co-founded The Podcast Coach with Rory in 2021.

Our Values

Our approach and values

We believe a podcast should reflect the standard of the thought leaders or business behind it. If you’re serious about how you communicate in writing, in person and on stage, the same care should apply to your podcast. Preparation matters. Structure matters. Presentation matters.

We bring broadcast discipline to the process. Clear thinking. Strong editorial judgement. Consistent production quality.

Not because it sounds impressive. Because it builds trust.

From day one, we focus on making something your audience can rely on and you can be proud of.

Broadcast standard

We work to the standards we learned in national broadcasting. Clear purpose and structure. Clean sound. Strong editorial judgement. If it wouldn’t go to air, it doesn’t go out.

End-to-end guidance

From shaping the idea to publishing every episode, we stay involved. You won’t be handed a checklist. You’ll have experienced producers alongside you at every stage.

Reputation first

Your podcast carries your name. We plan carefully, edit properly and sense-check everything so it reflects the level you already operate at.

Built around the audience

A podcast only works if people want to listen. We focus on substance, clarity and consistency so your audience keeps coming back and knows exactly why they should.

Isabella Tree Host of the Knepp Wilding Podcast
"I've loved working with The Podcast Coach over the past year. We've rebooted our podcast with their help. A big part of that was thematic in what we choose to focus on, and another big component was just the quality of production, the way in which we edit it and put it together. The Podcast Coach was really instrumental in making that happen, whether it was about helping us think through what the right themes and topics were, or whether it was about editing or just shadowing and being part of the episode recording, making sure that each episode was the best episode we could possibly do. Working with Ben and Rory really helped us up our game. I really appreciate the work they've done and if you are looking for support of this nature, I couldn't recommend anyone finer."
Saif Hameed Founder and CEO

Deborah Thomas Host of the These Three Things Podcast
“Our podcast coaching with Ben and Rory was invaluable – a detailed appraisal of our first series, with tangible actions and tips which we will be putting into practice in our second series. Ben and Rory have buckets of experience and enthusiasm and it was great to get an external expert view on what we're doing right and the tweaks we can make to take Trapped History to the next level. Thanks to this session we're feeling very energised and positive about what the future holds.”

Our Process

A process refined over decades working in both BBC and Global radio and television. We take the work seriously. We take ourselves slightly less so.
